So Tired I Can't Even Think Of a Title - Rachel

I've just gotten home from work and am EXHAUSTED, so I'm revisiting my oil and water pictures. I've been looking at this one for a while now, playing with different crops and I notice that it becomes a different image depending on where I draw the lines. Okay, I can not think for a moment longer and my power to use the English language is slipping away, so I'll just allow the image to speak for me.

Circular Thinking - Rachel

I continue to want to play with this technique and had but a couple minutes today. I really SHOULD be preparing a lecture, but I wanted to ensure I didn't miss out on posting today since I'll get home late.

Distraction through Abstraction 3 - Rachel

Today is bound to get away from me (it seems that it already has, actually, since the last place I should be is in front of the computer when I need to leave for work) so, in order to prevent another day without a post I'm posting a third oil and water abstract. I really enjoyed playing with those elements and am thinking that I will experiment with it further, soon.

Distraction through Abstraction 2 - Rachel

I'm up too late and my head is splitting open from sinus pain and pressure. I had all the best intentions to create something new today (I'm still counting today as Monday since I've yet to go to bed), but since I wasn't physically up to the task I am posting another oil and water abstract that I took last week. And with this I am giving up on work for the night and going to bed in hopes that tomorrow's rains will wash away both the pollens and pressures which plague me today.

The Underwater Garden - Rachel

Another attempt at creating something outside my ordinary. Using much the same technique as for yesterday's post I played with focusing differently and created a alternative feel. I'm reminded of some mystical underwater realm of coral gardens and undulating kelp, with deeper recesses just beyond sight. While I shot the image in the horizontal, it cried for a vertical display which, to me, reinforces the sense of floating and reaching for the surface above.

Distraction through Abstraction - Rachel

I've started to feel a bit like I'm not pushing myself, I'm falling into a comfortable pattern of posts and I'm not looking beyond my own edges and trying something new. Tonight I decided to try something, ANYTHING different and here's the result. I like the colors, the orbs and the feel of this image. I tried a couple of different crops, but was most pleased by the image as a whole. Does it say something? I'm not sure of that, but it was a foray into something new, and I'll experiment again. Tonight I hand held my camera whilst my trusty assistant hand held the container of water and oil... perhaps something more stable next time to permit a more varied exploration of what's possible.

my window to yours - Amy

I took this photo with my gawd-awful camera on my ancient cell phone. I might try to  paint something from this.

This is another of my underwater dream series. if you look closely, you can see a mermaid smoked in pale lavender. She is floating in the center and looks like she just turned and her hair is still in front of her face flowing outward.

When Sirens Dream

This is a work in progress. If you look closely you can see her in the middle and other smaller sirens swimming around.

Bird of Paradise

This is my inner vision of a Bird of Paradise. I use natural elements to inspire me along with music to make my colors move.

Just Playing~ Acrylic ~ Lori Singer

Still feeling very blocked, so just playing with color. I love lines, dots and swirls, perhaps if I do enough of them I will be motivated to do something great or challenging. I am thinking about art a lot, but having a hard time performing, perhaps I just have too much going on. I know just showing up and working will take me somewhere eventually. Tomorrow will be another day.

Doodler takes it to the canvas ~ Acrylic ~ Lori Singer

Doodler takes it to the canvas. I am a doodler and always have been. I used to spend ours doodling on the side of my school work as a child and believe it saved me in many ways. Maybe my next painting will be dedicated to the flower on the side of my school work that protected my spirit. One of my other loves and obsessions is about wild vibrant colors. I long for the day when I can fully master color and get it to work the way I see it in my head and the world. This canvas is a merging of two things I love and it's a piece of who I am and have always been. It's been fun to see the merging of line and color. When I finally manage to master color, I think this quote will have come true for me and I will finally feel like a painter. For now I fumble along trying to manage dirt and minerals.

"Color has taken possession of me; no longer do I have to chase after it. I know that it has hold of me forever... Color and I are one. I am a painter." Paul Klee

Inspired by jackson - Amy

Felt like painting but did not want to use a brush. I got out a squirt bottle and made a mess. On the second one, I used a straw and blew some of the paint together. There's also some adhered dried paint from the top of some tubes. When I pealed them off, they looked really cool and I kinda felt like they were the cherry on top of the sundae.

over the ridge - Amy

Acrylic paint on board

One of my new year's resolutions was to experiment with different mediums. First up was resin sand. It was right up my alley as I just adore thick textural paint. I am looking into encaustic painting as a potential next step.

Sunny Day - Robin

Although painting is not my usual medium AT ALL! I had some fun painting outside in the sunshine this morning using acrylics and flowers to create some texture. So much fun learning something new.

Thanks for the invite Amy and Rachel. I'm happy to be here.
